A good friend of the Computer Arts Society died last week. The following notice appeared in the Times Online last Friday:
PURCELL Patrick Aloysius Purcell died peacefully at his home. The 77 year old Academic and Scholar working in digital media and social net working was based at Imperial College London at the time of his death. He previously taught at the University of Ulster, The Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Laboratory and the Royal College of Art.
George Mallen notes that it was thanks to Patrick that the CAS "Event One" was held at the RCA (where Patrick then worked) in 1969. Patrick attended the CAS re-formation meeting in 2004.
An extensive set of tributes to Patrick can be found on the Imperial College site.
